Last night while a was looking at my father in-laws John Herbert's picture, I looked up what WW2 fighter pilots wore, when they were flying. He was 18 years old when climbed into the cockpit of a Royal Navy Wildcat plane. Younger than my oldest son Simon who is 21. It makes me shudder.
